At FIVAP, we believe it is important to provide emotional support and have a psychologist on our team.
Your well-being matters to us.
During the process of human reproduction, whether spontaneous or requiring medical treatment, those involved, whether couples or single mothers, experience a series of moments of greater or lesser psychological stress. With the help of a professional, these can be resolved by applying appropriate tools to overcome them without impacting the couple or the individual and their future.
The assisted reproduction psychology professional offers:
• Guiding couples through the often tortuous sea of different emotions and feelings, such as sadness, injustice, guilt, denial, anger, and helplessness in the face of an infertility diagnosis.
• Helping the couple or single woman manage anxiety and depressive symptoms.
• Translating the various steps the couple or single woman will face into less technical terms.
• Helping the couple pick themselves up after a setback and trying to find the strength to make the best decision together, reviewing the path taken up to that point. Supportive counseling will focus on the resources patients themselves have to deal with emotional and physical stress and on developing new strategies to better overcome stressful situations.
• Supporting the couple in the event of a negative diagnosis during the prenatal phase.
They can also provide the tools to:
• Make communication within the couple smoother and less conflictual. Having the same goal doesn’t always mean having the same expectations or fears.
• Creating a welcoming and reassuring environment to discuss the difficulties of sexual life and intimacy, which are often tested during the search for a child.
• Encouraging the couple to break out of isolation, giving them the desire to make their dream of becoming parents a reality, without losing sight of the various aspects of life. Too often, the child who isn’t there becomes an obsession and silently erodes the couple’s strength and serenity day after day.
• Helping couples or single women enjoy pregnancy without experiencing it as an illness, but rather as the achievement of a long-awaited goal.
• In some cases, you can support the couple on the path of adoption, but also help them work through the frustration and pain of not having a child and/or giving up parenting. Being a couple without having children means redefining a life plan and committing to renewing it together.
