Egg donation
An altruistic way to help women become mothers
Most women can have a child spontaneously or naturally; however, there are women who, for various reasons, will need egg donation to become mothers.
Egg donation is a way to help those women and/or couples who have a strong desire to become mothers and fathers. Thanks to the generosity, altruism, and goodwill of another woman who, due to her health and age, is able and willing to donate her eggs anonymously, it is possible to make this a reality. “Law 14/2006, of May 26, on assisted human reproduction techniques, establishes that donation is carried out anonymously, voluntarily, with information, and without remuneration.”
BECOME A DONOR
What is the procedure for donating eggs in IVF?
A detailed medical history is taken, including personal and family history, knowledge of hereditary diseases, and other information.
A routine gynecological examination, cervical cytology, screening for sexually transmitted diseases, and gynecological ultrasound are performed, in addition to a general medical examination to determine the donor’s physical and mental health.
Once the medical examination has been completed and the patient has been accepted, the entire process of egg donation and the ovarian stimulation she will undergo is explained to her. The tests and procedures are explained to her, and informed consent forms for the tests and the process are signed.
The tests performed on egg donors are:
- Blood Type and Rh Factor
- Complete blood work: hematology, biochemistry, and coagulation.
- HIV type 1 and type 2 serology (antibodies and p24 antigen)
- Hepatitis B serology
- Hepatitis C serology
- Chlamydia trachomatis (DNA)
- Gonorrhea
- Lues (syphilis)
- Karyotype
- Test for carriers of hereditary recessive genetic diseases. This test determines whether we are carriers of recessive diseases, in order to reduce the risk of transmitting genetic diseases to our offspring.
What is the oocyte donation process like once the donor is selected?
We begin treatment by taking contraceptives for a few days. Treatment begins on the first day of the menstrual cycle. The treatment lasts approximately two weeks between the start and follicular puncture.
Ovarian stimulation begins with an easy-to-administer treatment, which is monitored through vaginal gynecological ultrasounds and blood tests. According to the protocols, the patient is determined to be ready for puncture, and treatment is administered to induce controlled ovulation.
Instructions are given and an appointment is made for follicular puncture, which is performed under light sedation and ultrasound guidance in the operating room. After recovery in the observation room, the patient is discharged with follow-up monitoring.
The procedure does not cause any major discomfort for the patient, with a rapid recovery and no delay in resuming normal daily activities.
- Interview with egg donation team.
- Specialist examination.
- Psychophysical health. Ovarian reserve assessment.
- General blood tests.
- Genetic testing.
- Results: Acceptance, informed consent, and matching with recipient partner.
- Scheduling – Start of stimulation treatment.
- OVARIAN STIMULATION: Ultrasound checks and treatment administration (approximately 10 to 12 days).
- Oocyte retrieval. Recovery. Discharge with recommendations.
