The Canary Islands Human Reproduction Assistance Center (FIVAP) began its journey in 2001, after Dr. Angela Palumbo moved from Boston to Tenerife, where she and her team deployed all the knowledge she had acquired during her 10 years of practice in the United States.
From the outset, the idea was to create a comprehensive women’s care center with high levels of clinical excellence and the primary objective of serving women and couples with infertility problems.
To this end, over the years, we have incorporated the scientific and technological advances implemented in the fields of Gynecology, Obstetrics, and Human Reproduction, always, of course, without losing sight of the human aspect and quality of care for our patients.
It is an important mission, as infertility is a growing problem in modern society. Currently, approximately 250,000 children are born through assisted reproduction techniques each year worldwide. It is not only about helping couples who cannot conceive spontaneously, but also enabling couples with transmissible genetic diseases to have healthy children thanks to the technique of preimplantation genetic diagnosis.
250,000 children are born through assisted reproduction techniques worldwide.
Our first IVF children were conceived in 2001.
Embryo freezing was successfully implemented from the very beginning, with the first child born from frozen embryos in 2002.
That same year, FIVAP created its egg donation program.
In 2003, the first children were born who underwent preimplantation diagnosis at our clinic, and in 2014, the first pregnancy was achieved using the ROPA technique (receiving eggs from the partner).
