3D SONOHYSTEROGRAM

Sonohysterography is a simple but essential test for assessing the uterine cavity and tubal patency before beginning fertility treatment. Its objective is to visualize the endometrial cavity more accurately than routine vaginal ultrasound and without taking X-rays, as is done with salpingography, which currently has specific indications.

It is performed by instilling sterile fluid into the uterine cavity through the cervix. Another type of fluid is sometimes used to assess certain pathologies.

Sonohysterography is a simple, short, and well-tolerated test. Patients should follow prior recommendations for its performance.

At FIVAP, both gynecologists and radiologists perform 3D SHG, which provides us with more detailed and precise three-dimensional reconstruction information, reproducing images that bring us closer to the reality of the cavity.

GYNECOLOGICAL ULTRASOUND

  • Ultrasound assessment of ovarian reserve and monitoring of follicular growth during treatment. For this purpose, we use 2D and 3D ultrasound, which allows us to obtain highly precise information on the size and volume of each follicle, allowing us to determine the optimal timing for puncture.
  • 3D fibroid mapping. This involves individually assessing the size and location of each fibroid. This is important for monitoring patients undergoing medical treatment to reduce their size and for planning the ideal surgical approach for each individual case.

BREAST ULTRASOUND

Breast ultrasound is a diagnostic technique for the breast itself and is sometimes used as a complementary test to mammography. Breast ultrasound has specific indications, being especially useful for the study of benign breast pathologies, the study of palpable lesions in young patients, the assessment of breast abnormalities during pregnancy and lactation, the diagnosis of fluid collections, the differential diagnosis of nodules, the study of breast implant integrity, and the study of breasts with increased tissue density (in this case, as a complementary test to mammography). Breast ultrasound does not replace mammography; they are complementary tests.

The test is painless, requires no prior preparation, and can be performed at any time during the menstrual cycle, in pregnant, lactating, pre- and postmenopausal patients, as well as in patients with breast implants.

Upon medical indication, if a breast ultrasound is needed, FIVAP offers the option of performing this test in its facilities by our leading radiologists.

MAMMOGRAM

This is the gold standard diagnostic imaging technique for the early detection of breast cancer, as it is the only technique that has been shown to reduce breast cancer mortality due to its ability to detect the disease in its early stages, identifying non-palpable lesions, allowing for early treatment with increased survival and better outcomes. Patients report this test as uncomfortable due to breast compression; however, today’s equipment has improved, and it is generally a well-tolerated test. At FIVAP, we recommend that our patients undergo breast cancer screening according to clinical guidelines and be referred to trusted referral centers.

ULTRASOUND OF OTHER AREAS

At FIVAP, our collaborating radiologists perform ultrasounds of other areas, such as the abdomen, urology, thyroid, and soft tissue, among others, providing patients with diagnostic tests that complement the physical and clinical examination.

COLPOSCOPY

Colposcopy is a diagnostic test that allows for a detailed assessment of the vulva, vagina, and cervix, providing valuable information for the early diagnosis of precancerous lesions. It is performed with a device called a colposcope, hence the name of the test.

During the test, the cervix is exposed using a speculum (the same one used for the Pap smear), the area is cleaned with saline solution, and then acetic acid and Lugol’s iodine are applied. The area under study is visualized through various lenses and filters of the colposcope, allowing for assessment of cervical changes, targeted biopsies, and therefore a detailed and precise study.

The test itself is painless, requires no special preparation, and its duration depends on the findings and the need for a cervical biopsy.
